Soca
Soca is Trinidad and Tobago’s signature popular music. It became defined as a genre when the melodic lilting sound of Calypso fused with insistent percussion of local Chutney music in the 1970s. It has evolved over the last 30 years and today incorporates a more hybridized dance sound with international samples, many inspired by European House and Techno, constituting the melodic building blocks of many popular tracks. Popular artists include Sugar Daddy, Alison Hinds, and Zoelah.
