Baile Funk
Baile Funk is a type of dance music from the slums, or favelas, of Rio de Janeiro, derived from Miami Bass. In Rio de Janeiro it is most often simply known as ”Funk,” although it is very different musically from what Funk means in most other places. The rhythm of Baile Funk is usually composed with a Roland 808 or 909 drum machine and from Samba drum samples, melodies are also derived from samples and rapped or sung over the top. Notable artists who have helped the music gain visibility include DJ Marlboro, the American artist Diplo and Edu K.
